Last financial year HCF returned 90 cents in hospital and extras benefits for
every dollar of contributions it received from members. The average return from
other funds was 84 cents. HCF’s higher benefit payment reflects the fact that it
covers more of the medical gap than other funds and has the lowest overnight
co-payments. HCF also does not apply excesses for surgical and medical
procedures performed on a same day basis (which account for over 60% of all
hospital admissions) or for overnight admissions to hospitals following
accidents.
